Held on the first Tuesday of the month, September through June, First Tuesdays is a neighborhood open-mic reading series in the best sense of the word neighborhood. People come to hang out with friends, have a drink, hear and/or share some poetry and to enjoy the featured reader’s performance. Almost every month, there is someone who comes to read her or his poetry for the first time. One woman comes to read her mother’s poetry as a way of keeping her memory alive. We welcome the entire range of literary ambition, desire and accomplishment; and our featured readers represent a similarly eclectic group, from spoken word artists to MFA program directors, literary magazine editors to international poets who now call Queens home. Come on down and check us out.
First Tuesdays takes place at Terraza 7 Cafe on Gleane Street in Jackson Heights, NY, where you can also hear some of the best music being played in New York City today. Sign up for the open mic starts at 6:30; the reading begins at 7:00 and the featured reader goes on at 8:00. If you have poetry to share, just like to listen, or if you just want to see what poets do at a reading, I hope you’ll come down and join us. Interested in being a featured reader?
